The attractive Bushbuck is a small antelope, closely related to the NYALA and KUDU, which inhabits the forests and bush of Africa south of the Sahara. It stands up to 30 in. (76 cm) at the shoulder and weighs between 100 and 170 Ib. (45 and 77 kg). The color of the back and flanks ranges from a light tawny in females to a dark brown in the larger males, with white spots and stripes. The sharp horns of the male may reach 22 in. (56 cm). Females may also have horns but are generally hornless. The horns are used to fight off predators. Bushbuck have been known to kill leopards, wild dogs, and, when wounded, even men.
