The Malayan sun bear is the smallest of the bears, growing to about 4 feet long (1.2 m) and weighing about 110 lbs. (50 kg). Its smooth, sleek coat of short, coarse fur is black with a yellow, crescent-shaped mark on the chest - from which the bear gets its name.

The sun bear is found in the tropical forests of Southeast Asia, including Borneo and Sumatra. It is an expert climber and spends most of its time in the trees. During the day it sleeps high up in a nest of branches and twigs. At night it feeds on rodents, birds, lizards, insects, fruit and the soft cores of palm trees. It will dig out termite nests, inserting its forepaws and licking the insects off. It is also fond of honey and is an expert at getting bees' nests out of trees.

Most water snails have heavier shells than land snails, but they can still move because the water supports some of the weight.
