The sloth or Indian bear, does not actually look like a bear. It has a long, shaggy coat colored black or blackish-brown, with a white or brown U-shaped mark on the chest. Its long muzzle is off-white. The sloth bear grows up to 6 feet in length (1.8 m), and can weigh up to 250 lbs. (113 kg). It is found in India and Sri Lanka and is extremely dangerous, particularly when it is frightened.

Sloth bears live in low country, both in dry and jungle areas. They are active mostly at dusk and dawn. They eat a wide variety of food, including insects, carrion, eggs, and fruit. They are particularly fond of termites, which they suck up through a tube they form with their loose lips.

Mating season occurs in June in India and Sri Lanka. The cubs are born after 7 months and remain with their mother for 2 to 3 years.
