The raven is an all-black bird, with a heavy bill and a wedge-shaped tail. It is the largest member of the crow family and reaches about 24 inches long (60 cm). They are easily identifiable by their wing size, and by their deep call, a "corronk" kind of a sound.

Ravens are found throughout the Northern Hemisphere, although it is now restricted to the wilder, more inaccessible parts of its range where it is safe from human persecution.

These birds live in pairs or small groups, but roost in large numbers, and will build their nests on cliffs and on treetops. They are playful and often acrobatic in flight. The raven's diet mainly consists of carrion, but they will eat anything edible.

Most water snails have heavier shells than land snails, but they can still move because the water supports some of the weight.
