There are approximately 100 different species of quail. They are small, plump birds belonging to the pheasant family. The common quail of Europe, Asia, and North Africa is about 7 inches long (18 cm), and a rustic golden brown in color, some with light streak patterns. They eat seeds, grain, insects, small snails, and other small invertebrates.

Quails live in fields and pastures, keeping to the ground unless forced to fly. Quails are solitary in nature, but will form family groups, and may be seen flying in small flocks during migration.

These birds are aggressively hunted by man.

Most spiders' fangs work like pincers, but some big spiders have downward-pointing fangs (like snakes) which they stab into prey.
