Oriolidae
Oriolus oriolus

The name "true oriole" was given to a group of 30 birds in the Old World, and to the American orioles in a very separate family.

The best known of the Old World orioles is the golden oriole. This very striking bird is about 10 inches in length (25 cm), with a sharply pointed beak. The male is golden-yellow with black wings and tail, the wing tips being yellow. Females are olive-green on the head and back, with lighter underparts, streaked with brown. They breed in most of Europe south of the Baltic.

The northern oriole and the more southerly orchard oriole live in Canada and the United States, and both have musical voices.

Bears are usually shy, but some black bears raid garbage dumps, trash cans, and even backyard bird feeders.
