Leopardus pardalis

This beautiful animal is a medium-sized member of the cat family. Ocelots range from the southwestern United States south to Paraguay. They are usually brown, gray or yellowish in color with large brown black-bordered spots, and there are black streaks around the head and neck. Ocelots grow up to approximately 4 feet long (1.2 m) and weigh up to 35 lbs. (16 kg).

They live in forests and hunt small animals by night and day. They often roam in pairs, and communicate with mewing sounds to keep in touch with one another. Although hunted for their coats, they do not currently appear to be in danger of extinction.

Most wild dogs hunt, rest, and travel in groups called packs. This way of life makes good sense since the adults can protect their young pups, and by hunting as a pack, dogs can kill animals larger than they could ever manage to on their own.
