MOCKINGBIRD

Phylum:
Class:
Order:
Family:
Chordata
Aves
Psittaciformes
Mimidae

Mockingbirds belong to the same family as catbirds. They are 10 to 12 inches in length (25-30 cm), and have more slender bodies than the thrushes which they resemble. Their tails are longer too, and their bills thinner. The mockingbird's ability to mimic other birds has made them extremely popular in the United States, and are the state bird of five states.

These birds are found in North, Central and South America, and the West Indies. The Galapagos mockingbird has evolved separately, just as Darwin's Finches have. Mockingbirds eat fruit and insects.
