As one of the most magnificent and popular parrots in existence, macaws reside in the tropical forests of Central and South America, extending from Mexico to Paraguay.

There are 18 species in all. The biggest is the scarlet macaw, or red and blue macaw, which reaches about 3 feet in length (90 cm). It is mainly scarlet red in color, except for yellow and blue wing feathers, and blue lower back, and outer tail feathers.

The popular pet birds, include the blue and gold macaw, which is a rich blue on the head and back, and golden yellow underneath, and the all cobalt hyacinthine macaw.

One of their biggest enemies is man, due to the commercial smuggling trade. Conditions in which these birds are shipped are deplorable and many die in the process. As pets, these birds are loving and loyal to their owner.

A brush is the name for a fox's tail. It is long, thick, and bushy, so it makes a cozy blanket in cold weather. The fox wraps its tail around its paws and face to keep warm.
