Phylum:
Class:

Family:
Chordata

Psittaciformes
Psittacidae

Lories are small parrots closely related to lorikeets. There are 25 species that live on the islands of the East Indies (notably New Guinea), and on the islands of the southwestern Pacific. Lories are somewhat bigger than lorikeets, but have shorter tails. They are predominantly red in color, with patches of yellow and green.

Lories and lorikeets are similar in their habits. They are also popular as pet birds, both for their bright colors as well as their " talking" ability.
