The loggerhead is a marine turtle that lives in warm seas around the world. These turtles swim farther into cool waters than any other, and are the only turtle to breed on mainland coasts of the United States. They are also known to wander quite far up river beds.

Loggerheads grow to about 1 yard (1 m) and weigh up to 300 lbs. (130 kg). The loggerhead varies in color from an olive shade to a red-brown color on top, and a yellowish color underneath. The arrangement of the turtle's shell plates and its large head distinguish it from the green turtle.

Loggerheads are very aggressive and eat fish, jellyfish, seaweed, and other foods. They lay their eggs on beaches which are guarded by rocks and reefs.
