JAGUARUNDI

Species:
Chordata

Felis yagouaroundi

This animal looks more like a weasel than a cat. The jaguarundi, or otter-cat, has a weasel-shaped head, short ears, a long neck and body, short legs, and a long tail. Their coat may be red or gray in color, and they live in warm forests and grasslands from southern United States south to northern Argentina.

For food, they kill rodents and ground birds. However, instead of stalking and pouncing on their prey, as do most cats, they chase it. Jaguarundis readily take to water and often climb trees in search of fruit.
