HAWK

Phylum:
Class:
Order:
Family:
Chordata
Aves
Falconiformes
Accipitridae

Often confused with falcons, the hawk is also a bird of prey. The European kestrel, for example, is a falcon, but the American kestrel is popularly known as the sparrow hawk. The European sparrow hawk is a typical hawk, with broader wings and tail than a falcon. Most hawks hunt by pouncing on their prey, often flying in a series of short dashes followed by a long glide. Their prey includes small birds and mammals. Hawks are breathtaking animals to observe in flight.

Most foxes are happiest on the ground, but the gray fox has an unusual ability to scamper up and down tree trunks. It grips the bark with its front paws and pushes itself up with its back legs.
