Doves are members of the pigeon family - there is no real difference between the two. The smaller members with more pointed tails are often called doves, and the larger birds with more rounded tails are usually called pigeons, but the names have no special significance. For example, the rock dove and the feral pigeon are the same species and can interbreed.

In many circles, doves represent peace and good luck.
