CROW
Phylum:
Class:
Order:
Family:
Species:
Chordata
Aves
Passeriformes
Corvidae

Crows are among the most clever of birds. The family includes approximately 100 species. Hooded and carrion crows inhabit large parts of Europe and Asia, the common crow and fish crow live in North America, the collared crow in China, and the pied crow in Africa. The carrion and the hooded crow interbreed, and are regarded as the same species by some.

Carrion crows spend most of their time on the ground feeding or perched in trees. They are often confused with rooks but lack the gray skin at the base of the beak. They are black all over, though in strong sunlight their plumage glistens with purple-bl uish hue.

Crows have a long, slow deliberate flight. Their food is varied, including both plants and animals. Because the are intelligent animals, they are resourceful with food, and will store it for the winter. They will open nuts and snails by actually droppi ng them onto stones from high flight.

The nest is usually in the stout fork of a tree. A female carrion crow lays about 4 to 5 eggs at a time and will incubate them.

The puma is born spotted, but after about three months the spots begin to fade. After about six months, pumas are red-brown all over.
