Cockatoos are a group of 16 species of the parrot family, which also includes cockatiels, gang-gangs, and galahs. Cockatoos look like parrots, but have crests which they can raise at will. Most are white, sometimes with pink or yellow tinges, and colore d crests, but some are black or gray.

These birds are found in the Australasian region, ranging from the Celebes in the west to the Solomon Islands in the east. They generally live in wooded country, though some extended to woodland borders and open scrub.

Cockatoos are mainly vegetarian, eating seeds, fruits, and nuts. In the wild, some are considered pests because they raid cereal crops, trampling down the plants and taking the seeds. Others attack fruit trees. In captivity, cockatoos make great pet bi rds, with their kind nature and their ability to mimic human and other sounds.
