One of the sweetest birds and a great starter pet for the bird-novice. The cockatiel is easily tamed and simple to care for. A relative of the cockatoo, these birds also posses a crest in which they use at will. When they are curious, or alerted to dan ger, or during mating, the crest rises forward.

Indigenous to Australia, there are at least 20 species of the already domesticated cockatiel, the most popular being the "cinnamon" which has the yellow head and red "rosy cheek" spots - one on each side just in front of the ear. They have a predominantl y solid body color of either gray, yellow, or white, with the underparts being the lightest in color. These birds are easily cross-bred

In captivity, these little birds can be taught to speak and to sing if they are worked with on a consistent basis. Their diet consists of various seeds, grasses, berries and other various fruit and some vegetation.
