CAPUCHIN

Phylum:
Class:
Order:
Family:
Chordata
Mammalia
Primates
Cebidae

We recognize the capuchin as the organ grinder's monkey. It is an
intelligent animal and popular in zoos and as a pet. Although there is
still some dispute, most authorities now say that there are four species,
belonging to the genus Cebus, and 33 subspecies. They live in troops in the
forests of tropical South and Central America. Mostly, they eat fruit.
Capuchins are small monkeys, measuring 12 to 15 in. (30 to 38 cm) long.
Their tails, which may be 24 in. (60 cm) long, are used to grasp objects
out of reach of the hands.
